Grandparentage test

Whether a child is biologically related to an alleged paternal grandmother or grandfather. Because grandparents share roughly a quarter of their DNA with a grandchild, rather than the half a parent shares, this test reconstructs the missing father's genetic profile indirectly.

Families where the alleged father cannot be tested — because he is deceased, unreachable, incarcerated, deployed, or unwilling. A grandparent's sample can establish the biological link in his place.

This is a common route in estate and inheritance matters, Social Security and veterans benefit claims, and custody proceedings where paternity was never formally established before the father became unavailable.

Collection is a buccal swab, the same as any paternity test. If the result will be used for legal or benefit purposes, book the legal chain of custody — photo identification, photograph at collection, witnessed collection, and tamper-evident sealed transport.
